St. Teresa of Avila

St. Teresa of Avila

Feast Day October 15th

"Saint Teresa was born in Ávila, Central Spain in 1515.  She was from a large, middle-class and pious family. As a girl, Teresa dreamed of being a martyr, or a hermit, and loved to repeat the words "forever and ever and ever."

"Saint Teresa of Avila, who founded the Discalced Carmelite religious order, invested lots of time and energy into prayer and became famous for the mystical experiences she had with God and his angels. The pinnacle of St. Teresa's angelic encounters happened in 1559 in Spain, while she was praying. An angel appeared and pierced her heart with a spear of fire that sent God's pure, passionate love into her soul, St. Teresa recalled, sending her into ecstasy."

"As St. Teresa approached the end of her life, she expressed happiness that her hour has arrived. “My Lord, it is time to move on. Well then, may your will be done. O my Lord and my Spouse, the hour that I have longed for has come. It is time to meet one another." St. Teresa was beatified at April 24, 1614 and canonized on March 12, 1622."
