Mary, Mother of the Church

"The Blessed Virgin Mary has been given the title of Mother of the Church 

since she gave birth to Christ, the Head of the Church,

 and she became the Mother of the redeemed people before her Son 

had given up the spirit on the Cross. Pope Paul VI solemnly confirmed the title in an 

address to the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council on 21 November 1964 and decreed 

that the whole Christian people should, by the use of this beautiful title, 

give still greater honor to the Mother of God.

‘The joyous veneration given to the Mother of God by the contemporary Church, 

in light of reflection on the mystery of Christ and on his nature, 

cannot ignore the figure of a woman (cf. Gal 4:4), the Virgin Mary, 

who is both the Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church. In some ways this was 

already present in the mind of the Church from the premonitory words of 

Saint Augustine and Saint Leo the Great. 

In fact the former says that Mary is the mother of the members of 

Christ, because with charity she cooperated in the rebirth 

of the faithful into the Church, while the latter says that the birth of the Head 

is also the birth of the body, thus indicating that Mary is at once 

Mother of Christ, the Son of God, 

and mother of the members of 

his Mystical Body, which is the Church’

The Story of St. Boniface

 

 Saint Boniface Known as the 

Apostle of Germany and Martyr 

Feast Day June 5th

"Boniface, who was baptized Winfrid, lived in the eighth century. He was a brilliant monk in a Benedictine monastery in England. He was the head of a school, but he thought God wanted him to be a missionary. He went to Frisia (Northern Netherlands and Germany) to begin his work. A war forced him to return to England for a few years, but he did not give up. Next, he journeyed to Rome to ask the pope to tell him where to serve. Pope Gregory II changed Winfrid’s name to Boniface, which means “a man who does good deeds.” Then he sent Boniface to eastern Germany.

For nearly 35 years, Boniface traveled all over Germany, preaching, teaching, and building schools, monasteries, and convents. He went to Rome to report to the pope about his work. There, the pope ordained him bishop and told him to return to Germany to continue missionary work. Boniface invited monks and sisters from England to come and help him. The monastery at Fulda is probably the most famous one started by Boniface.

As an old man, Boniface returned to Frisia to work among the pagans. One morning, while he was waiting to confirm a group of converts, a band of angry natives rushed into the church and murdered Boniface and about 50 converts. Today Saint Boniface is the patron of Germany."

PENTECOST

 

DAY OF PENTECOST

The name “Pentecost” comes from the Greek word meaning “fiftieth.” Like Easter, 

it is tied to a Jewish feast. 49 days (7 weeks, or “a week of weeks”) 

after the second day of Passover, the Jews celebrated the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot).

Passover celebrates the freeing of the Jews from slavery; Shavuot celebrates their becoming 

God’s holy people by the gift and acceptance of the Law; 

and the counting of the days to Shavuot symbolises their yearning for the Law.

From a strictly practical point of view, Shavuot was a very good time for the Holy Spirit to come down and inspire the Apostles to preach to all nations because, being a pilgrimage festival, 

it was an occasion when Jerusalem was filled with pilgrims from many countries.

Symbolically, the parallel with the Jews is exact. 

We are freed from the slavery of death and sin by Easter; with the Apostles, we spend some time as toddlers under the tutelage of the risen Jesus; and when he has left, 

the Spirit comes down on us and we become a Church.

St. Joan of Arc and Angels

Life of Holiness of Saint Joan of Arc

Joan was startled to hear a heavenly voice speaking to her -- accompanied by a bright light that she could see clearly, despite the fact that the it was appearing in the middle of the day when sunlight was abundant. "The first time, I was terrified," Joan recalled. "The voice came to me about noon: it was summer, and I was in my father's garden."


After Michael identified himself, he told Joan to not be afraid. Joan said later: "It seemed to me a worthy voice, and I believed it was sent to me by God; after I had heard this voice the third time, I knew that it was the voice of an angel."


Michael's first message to Joan was about holiness, since living a holy life was a vital part of Joan's preparation to fulfill the mission God had in mind for her. "Above all, Saint Michael told me that I I must be a good child, and that God would help me," said Joan. "He taught me to behave rightly and go often to church."

 “Chant à Sainte Jeanne d’Arc” was a poem 

written by  Saint Thérèse of Lisieux on 8 May 1894, 

 later it was set to music by Vincent Lecornier. The poem briefly tells the story of Joan of Arc, but is above all a call to the Saint to help and pray for the people of France.

Joan of Arc was not canonized until 1920 and so during Saint Thérèse’s lifetime the revered Frenchwoman was not officially regarded as a saint. However, the cause for Joan of Arc’s canonization was very active and received more recognition in 1894, dubbed the “Year of Joan of Arc” in France, which culminated in Pope Leo XIII’s declaration of Joan as “venerable.”

Queen of Heaven: A tribute to Mary

Why We Honor Mary as Queen

The Memorial of the Queenship of Mary was first instituted in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. According to Catholic tradition, as Christ is king of the world and saves the people from their sins, Mary is queen over the earth because of her role in the story of divine redemption, serving as mother to the Savior. 

Pope Benedict XVI described this relationship, saying:

The small and simple young girl of Nazareth became Queen of the world! This is one of the marvels that reveal God’s Heart. Of course, Mary’s queenship is totally relative to Christ’s kingship. He is the Lord whom after the humiliation of 

death on the Cross the Father exalted above any other creature in 

Heaven and on earth and under the earth (cf. Phil 2: 9-11). 

Through a design of grace, the Immaculate Mother 

was fully associated with the mystery of the Son: in his Incarnation; in his earthly life, at first hidden at Nazareth and then manifested in the messianic ministry; in his Passion and death; and finally, 

in the glory of his Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven.

 

Mother Mary... Our Queen in Heaven

Let us as children of the Church above all renew our devotion to the One whom Jesus bequeathed to us as Mother and Queen. Let us entrust to her intercession the daily prayer for peace, especially in places where the senseless logic of violence is most ferocious; so that all people may be convinced that in this world we must help each other, as brothers and sisters, to build the civilization of love.

Mother's Month, MARY'S MONTH

 Praise be to Jesus that we HONOR OUR MOTHER's in the MONTH of May... 

We also Honor Our Mother Mary...

Thank you Jesus for giving us Your Mother to be our Mother, our Heavenly Mother.

Thank you God the Father of allowing her to be with us in many ways.  We are lost little children and we need our mother to help us... guide us... and love us.
