Meditation & Reflection for HOLY WEEK on the 7 Sorrows of Mother Mary

“Meditation/Reflection on the seven sorrows of Mary”

Introduction:

Make a sign of the cross... In The Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.

O’God come to my assistance...

Oh Lord, make haste to help me.

Pray: Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was the beginning of, is now and ever shall be world without end, Amen.

Good and gracious God, open our hearts to find you in the sorrows of our hearts and in the pain of our world. As we make this prayer to you, we invite Mary, our mother and yours to walk alongside us. May her faithful witness to your own suffering and death inspire and console us.

Song: Lord Prepare Me To Be A Sanctuary

The 1st sorrow: The prophecy of Simeon and Anna.

When Mary and Joseph presented the child Jesus to the Temple, Simeon blessed them and said, “This child will be the rise and fall of many in Israel. And he told Mary that her heart will be pierced like a two-edge sword, so the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” Mary didn’t understand this but she just keeps it in her heart.

We grieve with you, O Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect)

Your heart was pierced by the prophecy of holy Simeon and Anna. Comfort us in our times of uncertainty and fear of the unknown. Give us tender hearts for those who live with deep anxiety and insecurity about their future.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Song: Hosea, Come Back To Me

The 2nd sorrow: The Flight to Egypt

When the angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child and destroy him. “Joseph rose and told Mary about what the angel instructed him to do. So immediately they wrapped the baby Jesus and took the child and his mother in a cold dark night and parted for Egypt. When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity, two years old and under. (Matthew 2:13-14-16)…

We grieve with you, O Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect)

Your heart was pierced by the sudden departure from your homeland to a foreign country. Comfort us when we meet unexpected challenges that draw us away from our complacency. Give us tender hearts for all the migrants and refugees in our world who flee their homes because of violence, persecution and insecurity…

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Song: Here I Am Lord

The 3rd Sorrow: The loss of the child Jesus in the Temple

The boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him. They returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers of the law and priests, listening to them and asking them questions and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why did you do this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” And he said to them,

“Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s House?” But they did not understand what he said to them. (Luke 2:43-50)

We grieve with you, O Mary most sorrowful!

(Pause and reflect) Your heart was pierced by losing your beloved son for three days. Comfort us when we feel lost and vulnerable. Give us tender hearts for all families who are separated from one another either by circumstances or by injustice.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Songs: Strong and Faithful is our God

Song: Yahweh, You are Near

The 4th sorrow: The condemnation - (Jesus and Mary meet on the way to Calvary)

With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. So, he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked. And he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. As He carried the cross on his way to Calvary, Jesus fell three times, Simon, a Cyrenian who was coming in from the country help Him carry the cross. A large crowd followed Jesus including many women who mourned and lamented him. Mary wanted to come closer to Him to comfort and console his son but the soldiers didn’t allow her. So, they just look at each other’s eyes and comfort each other with love and compassion. (Luke 23:23-27)

We grieve with you, O Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect)

Your heart was pierced by watching your son Jesus unjustly condemned and forced to carry his own cross to his death. Comfort us when we feel unfairly judged and humiliated. Give us tender hearts for all those who are unjustly condemned, discriminated against and killed in our world today.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Song: The Old Rugged Cross

Song: God Alone

The 5th Sorrow: The Crucifixion and death of Jesus -

When Jesus was hanging on the cross for hours under the heat of the sun, standing by the cross were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, He said to his mother, “Woman, behold your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

And as Jesus looked around for his disciples and friends he said, “I thirst” thirsty of his disciples and friends who were hiding because of fear to be persecuted/captured and put to death. Then one of the soldiers took a sponge soak it with a cheap wine and give it to him, and he drank it. And He said, “It is finished.” Then He looked up to the heavens and said, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing,” he further said, “Father into thy hands I commend my spirit.” Then he bows down his head and died… And one of the most heartless soldiers however, plunged his spear into Jesus side, and at once blood and water poured out… (John 19:25-30)

(A brief silence is observed) ….
Pray: We adore you O’Christ and we praise, because of the holy cross you have redeemed the world… We grieve with you, O Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect) Your heart was pierced when you stood at the foot of his cross and watched him declare “It is finished “…. Comfort us when we face the death of those we love. Give us tender hearts for all those who die due to persecution, abuse, neglect, and lack of resources.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Song: Where you there when they crucify my Lord

Song: I love you Lord

The 6th sorrow: “Jesus is Laid in Mary’s Arms”

The soldiers and some of the disciples removed the body of Jesus from the cross and gave it to Mary. Her heart was broken, with tears in her eyes grieving, anguished and welcome her son with open arms. (John 19:40)

We grieve with you, O' Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect)

Your heart was pierced when you held your beloved son’s lifeless body in your arms. His body was disfigured, broken, his face was covered with blood, sweat and dirt and you wiped it with your tears and kissed him and embraced him full of love and affection. Comfort us O' Mary, when we feel defeated. Give us tender hearts for all parents who watch helplessly as their children die in their arms… the victims of war and the abuse.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Song: Lord I’m Sorry

Song: Jesus What A Wonder You Are

The 7th Sorrow: The burial of Jesus…

Joseph of Arimathea, help clean the body of Jesus, put a hundred pounds of a mixture of aloe and myrrh, wrapped him in a white burial cloth, and asked Pilate if he could take the body of Jesus and put him in the garden a new tomb.

(John 19:41-42)

We grieve with you, O' Mary most sorrowful.

(Pause and reflect)

Your heart was pierced when you watched them put your son in the tomb. You said the last goodbye and not knowing when to see him again… Comfort us when we feel helpless and afraid. Give us tender hearts to respond with kindness, and generosity to the suffering around us.

Pray: Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Let us pray…

Hear our prayers, O' Merciful God, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. Through this meditation, may we find comfort and strength in our own sorrows, and knowing that our faith calls us to care for one another, may this prayer give us compassion for all our love ones, family, friends, our neighbors, our community and the whole world. And at the hour of death, may Mother Mary draw close to us, bringing us to rest in eternity with You… Amen!

Saint Monica Feast Day August 27th

St. Monica, Please Help Our Children| National Catholic Register

Saint Monica

St. Monica is the patron saint of victims of abuse and adultery,  alcoholics, widows, and mothers facing family difficulties.

Her prayer perseverance, her fidelity to her family, husband and children, no matter how difficult they were, is what worked the Mighty Miracle of LOVE:  Love in their hearts.

~~~
Prayer: Saint Monica, you were just an ordinary woman.
No miracles, no extraordinary events filled your life.
Instead, your cup was filled to overflowing with suffering and tears
as your loved ones broke your heart many times over.
Yet you never gave up on them, nor on God’s love for them.
Your extraordinary love of your husband and children
wove the fraying threads of your family always more closely together.
You trusted in the power of your motherly prayer to move God’s heart,
and your wayward son didn’t just convert but became a great saint of the Church.
No miracles, no extraordinary events filled your life.
Instead, your cup was filled to overflowing with suffering and tears
as your loved ones broke your heart many times over.
Yet you never gave up on them, nor on God’s love for them.
Your extraordinary love of your husband and children
wove the fraying threads of your family always more closely together.
You trusted in the power of your motherly prayer to move God’s heart,
and your wayward son didn’t just convert but became a great saint of the Church.
In times of grief and suffering, when I mourn for my loved ones,
give me that same confidence in God’s love.
May the ordinary sufferings of my life also become extraordinary
through the power of God’s love
working in me and through me.
Amen.
Angels of Peace
Angels of Peace
Today... Let us all be Angels of Peace
Give me Courage...
Oh, give me courage, Lord, today!
To face what comes along;
Give me the faith and love I need
To fill each day with song...
Oh, give me courage, Lord, today
To follow in Thy way:
Help me to do what I should do,
And hear me when I pray...
Oh, give me courage, Lord, today,
And strength to do Thy will;
Lead me and guide me, precious Lord,
For I need Thy presence still...
Oh, give me courage, Lord, today,
Come wash away my pain;
Thou art my Master, Lord, and King,
And ever shall remain.
(by Hope C. Oberhelman)
PRAYER: Lord, My Yoke is Heavy
Lord, my yoke is heavy and there are
times when I insist on carrying it myself.
I pray, during those times when I am too
stubborn to listen, take it from me, Lord,
and lead me to restful waters.
Thanksgiving:
Oh Lord, thank you for Your reassurance.
Thank You for coming to our
rescue. We pray for those who can't see an
end to their problems, may they experience
the lightness of Your yoke.
Intercessory Prayer... You?
Are you a person who prays for others?
Did you know that means you are an
INTERCESSOR?
Yes, sometimes we are all called to pray for someone...
Maybe someone we don't even know!
Our Lord will put a heaviness on your heart and mind that
you just can't shake off.
This is a powerful feeling...
an urgent need for you to pray for them.
It doesn't matter what our status is or what we are dealing with personally... It just comes... and when it does, oh boy... best to heed the need and follow your heart and pray, pray, pray for that person
or situation at hand.
Because... God has put this desire upon you! He picked YOU!
Yes He did... He desired for you to listen and endure this request!
It's not easy...
No, it's not easy...
and sometimes we carry this need to pray for another in a very somber way.
But did you know...???
Our Lord will allow you,
Yes, you to carry their pain for them?
Never give up!
Be the
INTERCESSOR THAT
GOD IS CALLING
YOU TO BE
~~~

Today I pray for all heartfelt Intercessors...
Make their burdens be light and let
their prayers be heard.
Let them see valued results in the prayers
that they've offered up to You, Lord for others.
Let them be the Light of the World for You, Lord. Amen

August 1 – Blessed Bond

Jesus, let Thy Beautiful Presence be always with us.

“I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”

There is no bond of union on earth to compare with the union between a soul that loves Me — and Me.

Priceless beyond all earth’s imaginings is that Friendship.

In the merging of heart and mind and will a oneness results that only those who experience it can even dimly realize.

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken
 down the middle wall of partition between us.  Ephesians 2:14

St James... Feast Day

Picture Reference: St James

Saint James... He's one of my favorite saints. He's known as the patron saint of Pilgrims.
We are all pilgrims on a spiritual journey, aren't we!

Paige St. James, a pilgrim messenger on a journey...

"James and John were known as “sons of thunder.” They seem to have had strong tempers. We read in Matthew 20:20-28 that the mother of James and John once asked Jesus to give her sons a high position in his kingdom. When Jesus asked the two brothers if they could endure the same suffering he was going to endure, they both said yes.

We do not know very much about James’ life. Tradition says he may have traveled to Spain. During the Middle Ages there was a famous shrine to St. James at Compostela in Spain. Luke records in the Acts of the Apostles: “It was about this time that King Herod started persecuting certain members of the Church. He beheaded James, the brother of John” (Acts 12:1-2). James is thought to have been the first apostle martyred.

St. James is a very popular saint in England, where more than four hundred churches are dedicated to him."
